FAQs
Are your European Oak Live Edge Slabs kiln dried?
Yes. All of our European Oak Live Edge Slabs are professionally kiln dried before arriving at our Dorset workshop. Kiln drying helps reduce the moisture content of the timber, making it suitable for indoor furniture such as dining tables, desks, breakfast bars, worktops and shelving.
Are the slabs supplied planed and sanded?
Yes. Every Workshop Series slab is machine planed and sanded, providing a flat, smooth surface that's ready for your own finishing. The natural live edge is left in its workshop condition, allowing you to refine or finish it however you choose.
Will I receive the exact slab shown in the photographs?
No. The photographs on this page are representative examples of our Workshop Series. As every piece of solid European oak is unique, the slab you receive will naturally vary in grain pattern, knots, colour and character while matching the size and specification you've selected.
Will my slab contain knots, splits or natural character?
Yes. Every European Oak Live Edge Slab is unique and will feature its own natural grain, knots, colour variation and character. These are natural features of solid timber and help make every slab one of a kind.
What can these oak slabs be used for?
Our European Oak Live Edge Slabs are ideal for dining tables, coffee tables, desks, breakfast bars, kitchen worktops, benches, shelving, window boards and a wide range of bespoke furniture projects.
How should I store my oak slab before installation?
Store your slab flat, indoors and in a dry environment away from direct heat sources or excessive moisture. Allowing the timber to acclimatise to its final environment before installation will help achieve the best long-term results.
How flat are your slabs?
All Workshop Series slabs are machine planed to produce a flat working surface before being sanded. As timber is a natural material, small amounts of movement can occur with changes in temperature and humidity after installation, which is completely normal.
What's the difference between the Workshop Series and Signature Series?
Both ranges begin with premium kiln-dried European oak. Workshop Series slabs are machine planed and sanded, leaving the live edge in its natural workshop condition for you to complete. Signature Series slabs receive additional hand finishing, including refined live edges and cosmetic crack repairs, making them ready for premium furniture projects with minimal additional work.
