FAQs
What's the difference between the Workshop Series and Signature Series?
Both ranges begin with premium kiln-dried European oak. Workshop Series slabs are machine planed and sanded, leaving the live edge in its natural workshop condition for you to complete. Signature Series slabs receive additional hand finishing, including refined live edges and cosmetic crack repairs, making them ready for premium furniture projects with minimal additional work.
What makes the Signature Series different?
Every Signature Series slab receives additional workshop preparation beyond our Workshop Series. As well as being machine planed and sanded, the natural live edge is carefully refined by hand and natural features are sympathetically detailed where appropriate, creating a beautifully prepared slab ready for premium furniture projects.
Are natural splits and knots removed?
No. We believe the natural character of European oak is what makes every slab unique. Where appropriate, natural features are carefully refined or stabilised while preserving the authentic beauty and individuality of the timber.
Is the live edge fully finished?
Yes. Every Signature Series slab features a hand-refined live edge that's been carefully shaped and sanded to create a smooth, tactile finish while preserving the natural beauty and character of the timber.
Is the Signature Series ready for furniture making?
Yes. The Signature Series is designed for customers looking to minimise workshop preparation. With the faces planed and progressively sanded, the live edge hand finished and natural features refined where appropriate, your slab is ready for your chosen finish or installation.
Do I still need to apply a finish?
Yes. Unless you've selected an optional finish, we recommend applying a suitable hardwax oil or wood finish before installation. This helps protect the timber while enhancing the natural grain and colour of the oak.
Are Signature Series slabs unique?
Yes. Every slab is individually selected from our stock and no two pieces are ever identical. Variations in grain, colour, knots and natural character are all part of what makes solid European oak so distinctive.
What are your dispatch times?
We aim to dispatch our boards and shelving within 7 - 10 days but in busy periods this can be up to 2 weeks, if you have any questions please contact us.
Where do you source your timber?
We source our timber from responsibly managed forests in France and across Europe, prioritising sustainability, quality, and long-term forest management.
